It is warm all year round, with temperatures in the capital, Colombo, staying between 20°C and 30°C. There are two
monsoon seasons, one that hits in the north and the other hitting the south. No snow has ever fallen there.
Sri Lanka was called Ceylon until 1978 but its native Sinhalese people have always known it as Lanka.
Sri Lanka’s main products are tea, rubber and coconuts. Prawn fishing has also grown enormously recently.
