Starting with STEP!

The Sustainable Technology Education Project (STEP) aims to increase young people's awareness of sustainable technology, enabling them to recognise the economic and environmental impacts of the technology they choose.

STEP is mainly geared towards design & technology teachers in the UK who are looking for ways of encouraging students to think about sustainability in their work. However, other teachers, who want to raise the issue of whether lifestyles are sustainable will also find it helpful.

This website includes:

• case studies drawn from around the world that focus on practical, sustainable solutions to real problems (these are mainly targeted at key stage 4 students)
• resources for key stage 3 students, including materials for food technology, resistant materials and textiles technology
• teachers' notes with suggestions on how to use the site
• links to other sites, a glossary and ideas on how to find more information
• activities for teachers and students to download.
